Indian Army Day – Happy Indian Army Day 2022

India celebrates Military Day on January 15 every year to honor the commitment of soldiers, to serve the nation with dedication and to set an important example of brotherhood. A day of national pride and remembrance of the selfless and heroic work of the brave jawans.

On this day in 1949, General KM Cariappa took over as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army and, therefore, this day is significant in the history of independent India.

Significance

The Indian army was founded in 1895 but ran outside the Indian monarchy until the country gained independence from British rule. On January 15, 1949, General KM Cariappa became the first Indian to command the Army. He took over from General Francis Butcher, the last commander in the British army. This historic day is celebrated with patriotic fervor throughout the Army Command Headquarters.

However, this year, this day will be celebrated amid tight rules due to the ongoing third wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.
